Suzuki plans to launch the Jimny Pickup along with bringing the all-electric version by 2030; Suzuki Jimny Hybrid also on cards via a mid-life update.
Suzuki Jimny is one of the most sought-after compact off-road SUVs globally and is available in both 3 and 5-door body styles. We have seen multiple enthusiasts around the globe converting their Jimnys into pickups by chopping off the rear roof. Rumours have always surrounded the Jimny pickup and it seems like the project is not dead yet and a pickup based on the Suzuki Jimny is under development.

Suzuki Jimny Pickup: What To Expect
Suzuki Australia’s senior officials confirmed that the Jimny pickup is under development and further went on to state that the project is not dead yet. The concept version of the Jimny pickup was showcased at the Tokyo Auto Show 2019 and almost, 5 years down the line, we are yet to see the final production version.
Suzuki Jimny Pickup: Launch Timeline & Technical Details related to Weight Reduction, Size etc
The launch timeline is not confirmed as of now but we believe that Suzuki may bring the Jimny-based pickup in the coming years, most probably by the end of 2025 or early 2025. The chopped-off rear end will result in significant weight reduction and the suspension needs to be worked around to achieve optimal stability. In addition to this, we believe that the longer wheelbase (2,590 mm) of the 5-door Jimny will be utilized for the pickup and it will sport slightly longer overhangs, unlike the regular Jimny where the rear wheels are placed at the extreme end.
Suzuki Jimny Pickup: Design, Seating Capacity & 4X4 Hardware
The Jimny Pickup will essentially be a 2-seater model as the space is in short supply and getting the second-row seats won’t be possible without playing around with the overall length. However, behind the seats, we can get a small storage compartment with quarter glass to maintain the optimum body balance.
The design will remain the same upfront while the side profile will be all-new and at the same time, the rear section could also maintain the tail lamps mounted on the rear bumper, much like the regular model. The 4X4 hardware will be carried over without any alternations and we will get a proper low-range transfer case with the Jimny pick-up.
Suzuki Jimny Pickup: New Hybrid Powertrain
The Suzuki Jimny currently uses the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine globally and it will continue to do so for the next few years. The stricter emission norms will demand the electrification of the current powertrain and by this, we mean a 48V mild-hybrid setup at best. No proper hybrid system can be expected in a 4X4 vehicle. This mild-hybrid powertrain will result in better power delivery and improved efficiency.
The Jimny Hybrid will be introduced to markets all over the globe in a phased manner depending on the requirements. The European market will be the first to get the hybrid Jimny which could be a part of the facelift model due in 2025.
