The performance-oriented version of the Kia’s flagship electric SUV, the EV9 GT is scheduled for an international debut next year in January

The Kia EV9 stands at the top of the Korean brand’s electric portfolio and it was launched last year in September. While the electric SUV is performing decently well in sales figures, a new performance-oriented GT version is on the cards for the international markets. The details of the electric SUV were revealed in the CEO’s Investor Day speech which was held earlier this month. Kia EV9 GT is essentially the first model from the brand’s new ‘GT’ range which will spawn a number of new models in the near future.

As the details revealed, the Kia EV9 GT will break cover in January 2025 and get an ‘Enormous Power Output’ which could take this heavy electric SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4 seconds. For reference, the Kia EV9 already weighs around 6,000 pounds. Additionally, the power will be channelled to two high-output electric motors and the EV9 GT will obviously get the AWD setup as standard.

While the details are scarce at the moment, we expect a major bump in the power figures as compared to the current maximum of 379 bhp and 516 pound-feet torque. Over 500 horses are likely in the Kia EV9 GT and it is expected to continue with the existing 99.8 kWh battery pack. In this case, the range could take a hit as the current max figures from the EV9 GT-Line stand at 270 miles on a single charge.

The Kia EV9 GT will also be equipped with reinforced suspension and electronic braking system in order to provide stable driving performance at high speeds.

The EV9 GT is just the start as Kia is also planning to launch more performance-spec GT versions of its current electric portfolio. The EV5 GT is on the cards and it has already been revealed for China. Moreover, a mid-life update for the EV6 is also under development and could make its international debut in the second quarter of 2024 followed by the EV6 GT.
