Finally, the Force Gurkha 5-Door has been revealed in the Indian market and it will sit alongside the updated version of the current Gurkha 3-Door. The improvements have been made to the powertrain, features as well as 4X4 hardware in order to bring the SUV at par with its upcoming rival, the Mahindra Thar 5-Door Armada. The bookings are now open for the off-road SUV for a token amount of Rs. 25,000. The official launch along with the price announcement is scheduled for the 1st week of May.
The Force Gurkha has got an updated state of tune with the current Mercedes-sourced FM 2.6 litre CR turbo-diesel engine, now putting out 140 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. Earlier, the same engine used to produce 90 bhp and 250 Nm torque. So, the power output has gone up by a good 500 bhp and 70 Nm torque. It is still mated to the familiar 5-speed manual gearbox and there is no automatic on offer as of now which continues to remain a major lacuna.
The ground clearance of the Force Gurkha 5-Door stands at 233 mm, up from the earlier 205 mm.
In addition to this, the overall length has also gone up along with a longer wheelbase to accommodate an extra pair of seats resulting in a 7-seater layout in the 2+3+2 configuration. The 3rd row sports a captain seat set-up without the individual armrests. The front seats get an independent armrest for both passengers.
In terms of features, it gets a fully digital driver’s display, a 9-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, new 18-inch alloy wheels, TPMS, dual-front airbags, a proper centre console housing the new fully electronic 4X4 shifter and more. In addition to this, all four power windows, cornering lamps, speed-sensing door locks and more have been added to the package to enhance the overall comfort and convenience of the cabin.
