Citroen India sold only 421 cars in February 2024. Despite having 4 cars in the line-up, the numbers are definitely not encouraging. However, the upcoming Citroen C3X comes with high expectations to revive the Stellantis-owned brand in the Indian market.
The Citroen C3X is based on the C3 Aircross and it will sport a coupe-SUV-like design, which will go against the likes of the soon-to-be-launched Tata Curvv. The Tata’s contender for the mid-size SUV segment will be launched in the second half of 2024. As per the latest media reports, the C3X will go on sale around mid-2024, around the same timeline as the Tata Curvv. However, as per our analysis, it will not be able to match the popularity and hype of the Curvv.
Learning from past mistakes is crucial for growth and Citroen seems to be on the right track. Unlike its previous mass-market model launches, the C3X will come loaded with all the bells and whistles right from the launch. Although, it will still fall short of the features when compared to its rivals. But, we can safely say that the SUV coupe will have all the basic features on board which are missing in the current line-up.
The upcoming C3X is expected to be positioned alongside the C3 Aircross, in fact, a notch above given the high level of equipment on offer. So, a price band of around 11 lakh to Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom) can be expected.

In terms of powertrain, the familiar 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic will power the C3X coupe-SUV.
There are certain factors which are not in favour of Citroen in India
While the upcoming C3X could tick a lot of boxes, its sales will be limited to around 1000-2000 units per month and this is a very optimistic estimate.
