Volkswagen Virtus & Taigun 6 Airbags Standard At No Extra Cost

Volkswagen Virtus Taigun 6 Airbags Standard

Volkswagen has spruced up the passive safety feature across its India 2.0 program cars by giving 6 airbags as standard; Volkswagen Virtus & Taigun are now equipped with 6 airbags from the base trim at no extra cost.

Volkswagen has updated the Virtus and Taigun with 6-airbags as standard across the range. The move comes after its sister brand Skoda updated its India 2.0 program cars i.e. Slavia and Kushaq with standard 6 airbags with a price revision. However, in the case of VW, there’s no price hike and it’s quite surprising.

Volkswagen Virtus & Taigun Gets 6 Airbags Standard: Does it help?

Talking about the mid-size sedan segment, all the models like Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Honda City were already equipped with standard 6 airbags and the Virtus was the only exception. The shortcoming is now resolved and the mid-size sedan segment becomes the only category to have this standard safety pack across all the available options. Meanwhile, the mid-size SUV segment has models like Honda Elevate, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq with standard 6 airbags and the Volkswagen Taigun has now joined the bandwagon.

It is important to note that the Volkwagen Virtus and Taigin already come with a 5-star crash test safety rating from Global NCAP.

Volkswagen Virtus & Taigun Enhanced Safety: Why no price hike?

No price hike with the inclusion of 6 airbags standard comes as a surprise. However, there could be a price increment planned for a few months later. In this case, the basic Comfortline variants of the Virtus and Slavia become an absolute value-for-money proposition. Even more in the case of Taigun which is priced at Rs. 11 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base spec variant. We also can’t undermine the fact that with a limited portfolio, Volkswagen is doing quite well in terms of sales figures. To keep the sales chart running, the German carmaker is also offering heavy discounts on the Virtus and Taigun.
