Skoda will bring a new compact SUV in the Indian market next year. The unnamed project is currently under development and we have already spotted the test prototype a few times. Skoda Compact SUV: Shorter Wheelbase & Tweaked Side Profile
Going by the spy shots, the shorter side profile of the Skoda’s upcoming compact SUV is quite evident. The current MQB-A0-IN platform which underpins the Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun measuring around 4.2 metres in lenth will be put under the 4 meter bar. This will result in a shorter wheelbase and some media reports claim it to be 85mm shorter than its bigger siblings. One more difference we could spot is the tweaked quarter glass and this has been done intentionally in intrerest of a more defined design language.
Moreover, the front and rear overhangs also seem to be shorter to fit the SUV under the 4 meter mark.
Familiar Engine, More Fuel Efficient
The familiar 1.0 litre TSI motor will be retained for the compact SUV putting out 115 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque, however, it will be more efficient than Kushaq. This comes down to the fact that the compact SUV will have lesser weight, thanks to the sub-4-meter dimensions. In addition to this, it will also feel more punchy as compared to the Kushaq and Taigun twins for the same reason.
Expected Price: Skoda’s Upcoming Compact SUV
Currently, majority of the SUVs in the sub-4-meter segment starts from around Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect a similar selling price for the Skoda’s upcoming offering, however, there are chances that the starting price could start from around Rs. 9 lakh.
