Taking ahead the Maruti Suzuki-Toyota partnership, a new EV will be launched by both brands next year i.e. 2025. This is not very big news but was quite expected after we had the update of Maruti Suzuki eVX launch next year by March. Toyota’s counterpart of the eVX will be the first proper electric car for the Japanese brand in the Indian market. Let’s learn more about the Toyota EV for India.
Last year, the Urban Electric SUV concept was showcased and it will share a lot with the eVX including the platform, powertrain as well as the technology on offer. Based on the born electric 27PL skateboard platform shared with the eVX, Toyota’s first EV for India will be heavily localised and it will be manufactured at Suzuki’s new Gujarat-based manufacturing facility. As per the reports, it will also be exported to other international markets.

Sporting a similar setup to the eVX, the Toyota EV will be available in two battery pack options, i.e. a 48kWh and a 60kWh unit. The real-world range will be anywhere between 350-400 kilometres on a single charge. Much like the competitors, it will get fast charging support of up to 50kWh. Measuring around 4.3 metres in length with a wheelbase of 2.7 metres, the EV SUV will rival the likes of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, the upcoming Tata Curvv EV as well as the Mahindra XUV400 EV.
As per the company, there will be an AWD option for some markets, however, it will not come to India due to the price-sensitive nature of the Indian customers.
Maruti is known for its spot-on pricing, however, it is getting a bit off track lately. As the Toyota’s EV will be manufactured by Maruti, the pricing will match the eVX. So, expect a starting price of around Rs. 13-14 lakh (ex-showroom).
