Tata Punch is the top-selling car in the Indian market in H1 2024 and managed to sell 1,10,308 units. This accounts for a 64% growth as compared to the H`1 2023. Petrol takes a 55% share of the overall sales while the remaining goes to the CNG account.
The Wagon R is taking the second spot in the top 10 list by selling 99,668 units in H1 2024. 56% of sales come from petrol while the remaining is from CNG. The Wagon R is a popular car in the affordable segment and it is one of the top choices of first-time car buyers.
The premium hatchback is the top-selling Nexa car in the brand’s line-up and is quite practical as well as fuel efficient. This is one of the top reasons behind its success in India and currently, good offers are running on it. The majority of its sales come from petrol variants.
The new-gen Dzire is just around the corner but there’s no stopping as the compact sedan has taken the 4th spot in the domestic sales tally in H1 2024. Total units sold- 93,811 and 52% of this comes from CNG. Plenty of cabin space at an affordable price tag is the top reason behind these numbers.
The Hyundai Creta is currently the best-selling Hyundai car in India and the top-selling mid-size SUV as well. Hyundai managed to sell 91,348 units of the Creta in H1 2024 and 38% of these numbers are for the diesel-powered version. This shows that the diesel sales are falling and buyers are preferring the petrol engine option.

Joining the list of the top 10 cars sold in India H1 2024 at the 6th spot is the Brezza with the sales bar at 90,153 units. 73% of these numbers are for petrol and the remaining 27% for CNG-powered versions. The Brezza is the top-selling car in the compact SUV space, thanks to its no-nonsense package covering all the basics at an attractive price tag.
Ertiga is the best-selling MPV in India and has managed to garner 88,738 units in H1 2024. It is among the most practical choices for families around Rs. 10 lakh. In addition to this, a good number of sales of the Ertiga come from commercial fleet buyers. Surprisingly, 58% of the total sales are for the CNG version.
Mahindra is playing the volume game in the Indian market with the Scorpio nameplate. Both the new Scorpio N and the Scorpio Classis are selling in good numbers. Banking on the diesel engine, 92% of sales is contributed by diesel variants while the petrol takes away the 8% share. The Scorpio nameplate is very popular in the domestic market, known for its sheer road presence and rugged nature.
The new Maruti Swift can’t be left behind when talking about the top 10 cars sold in India in H1 2024. Although the hatchback has missed the mark with its usual top spots, however, is still in the top 10 with 84,172 units in the bag. 92% of the total sales come from petrol and the remaining 8% from CNG. These CNG numbers are for the previous generation model as the latest one is yet to get the CNG fuel option.

Tata Nexon stands at the last spot in the top 10 list of cars sold in India in H1 2024. With offers of up to Rs. 1 lakh, the Nexon is being offered with the highest discounts in the highest-selling cars list. The sales numbers are combined for the ICE as well as the electric Nexon. The Nexon EV constitute 9% of the total sales while the diesel’s share stands at 15%.
