Skoda Kylaq Compact SUV: The New Name

The word ‘Kylaq’ is derived from the Sanskrit language and means ‘Cyrstal’. As per the company, the upcoming SUV is inspired by Mount Kailash. However, the latter statement makes no sense and can be attributed to the brand’s poor marketing strategy. We hope that this is not taken forward at the time of launch.

Keeping the uniformity, the word Kylaq starts from the letter K and ends with Q, as is the case with other SUVs in the SKoda’s line-up. The Kylaq in itself sounds interesting and gives that opulent vibes. We will say that it is a good choice. It will be interesting to see how it goes with the SUV once it is revealed.

Skoda Kylaq Compact SUV: What We Know

The Skoda Kylaq will go on sale early next year and will boast an aggressive starting price. Making use of the familiar MQB-AO-IN platform and a good proportion of part sharing with the Kushaq, the 75% localisation will be the key to this competitive pricing.

We expect the starting price to be around Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom) or even lower. The top-spec variant is expected to be priced around Rs. 14 lakh (ex-showroom), thereby overlapping the Kuhsaq’s mid-spec trims.

The Skoda Kylaq will be powered by the familiar 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine putting out 115 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque. It will come with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
