Severe Rusting In A 5 Year Old Tata Altroz: Owner Disappointed

After an unsatisfactory response from the service centre, the owner decided to get an aftermarket repaint on the rusted parts which cost him Rs. 20,000.

Tata Motors is one of the leading car manufacturers in the Indian market and is well applauded for making safe cars along with its early venture into the electric vehicle segment. However, quality issues and Tata Motors seem to go hand-in-hand, pretty evident with hundreds of examples over the past few years. The latest issue comes in the form of severe rusting in a 5-year-old Tata Altroz.

Severe Rusting In A 5-Year-Old Tata Altroz: The Timeline of the Issue

The said Tata Altroz was purchased in February 2020 and is the XZ manual petrol variant, manufactured in December 2019. According to the owners, the rusting issue was first reported to the service centre in June 2020, around 4 months after the purchase, but was not given a proper response. Moving forward, in July 2021, the issue was again reported at the first service. This time, the bonnet, boot door and front driver-side door were repaired in the authorised service centre and 75% of the total bill was covered by Tata Motors, stated the customer. For reference, the owner is based out of Gujarat.

Severe Rusting In A 5-Year-Old Tata Altroz: The Rusted Parts

The boot door, driver-side door, side running board and bonnet are some of the rusted parts. As per the owner, the issue is also there on the underbody and the tail light housing on the boot lid has signs of corrosion as well.

After an unsatisfactory response from the service centre, the owner went for an aftermarket repaint of the affected parts, costing him Rs. 20,000. The solution of the metal corrosion on the boot door is yet to be found. Talking to him, we found out that he is not sure how long this after-market paint will last and the issue may crop up again in a year or so.
