For the year 2024, Land Rover has ditched the steel wheels on the Land Rover Defender for a new set of lighter white-painted aluminum wheels; These new wheels appear similar to the steel units.
Steel wheels are rugged, abuse-friendly, cost-effective, and look quite good in an off-road SUV. Land Rover Defender is one such example, however, the British badge has pulled the plugs off the 18-inch steel wheels on offer on the SUV. For the year 2024, the company has discontinued the steel wheels in the Defender line-up. Interestingly, they have also come up with a good solution for the same.

Land Rover Defender New Aluminium Wheels: Details
The replacement of the steel wheels has been done with Aluminium wheels that look exactly the same. The new Type 9013 20-inch aluminium wheels are now in production for the MY2024 models and can be had with the County Exterior Pack worth $5950. The new Type 9013 comes with a major advantage and that is the weight. Land Rover stuck to a maximum of 18-inch units for the steel wheels due to the exorbitant amount of rotational mass they added to the overall package. Now, with the new Aluminium wheels being lightweight, they are offering 20 inches and they do look aesthetically pleasing.
Talking about the reduced weight, the Land Rover Defender new aluminium wheels are lighter by 8 pounds each, making them good for the SUV’s overall dynamics. Furthermore, Land Rover stated that the Type 9013 units can further go down on weight if they let go of the white paint, primarily done to give them the steel wheel-like aesthetic appeal.
