The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has been launched in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs. 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom); Rs. 50,000 premium for AMT.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) today launched the new-gen Swift in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs. 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The fourth-generation model brings plenty of updates to the package including design, feature additions and a new engine which will form the base of multiple cars in the brand’s line-up.
New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Launched: Price
The price range starts from Rs. 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and the top-spec model ZXi+ AMT will set you back by Rs. 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The premium for the AMT variant is Rs. 50,000 and can be had with VXi, VXi (O), ZXi and ZXi+. In typical Maruti Suzuki fashion, the AMT option is not available in the entry-level variant. Moreover, it is also important to note that the price has gone up in the range of Rs. 25,000-Rs. 37,000 as compared to the previous generation model. The top-of-the-line ZXi+ costs Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the very high-selling VXi variant is priced at Rs. 7.30 lakh.

New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Launched: Is it Overpriced?
If we look at the premium over the outgoing model, the new features and the additional standard safety pack easily justify it. However, we can’t undermine the fact that the Swift is no longer our sweet affordable hatchback and this is the case with the entire Indian automotive industry.
Some people will also argue that we can get the Baleno at a slightly extra premium and this is quite true. At a starting price of Rs. 6.66 lakh (ex-showroom), you will get a refined 4-cylinder engine, better space and more comfort.
Comparing the Swift with its closest rivals, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago, the former starts at Rs. 5.92 lakh while the latter’s range starts from Rs. 5.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Here again, the Swift comes out as a more expensive offering and that too by a heavy margin. If it was an over Rs. 10 lakh segment, the Rs. 50,000-60,000 premium is not a big deal. However, playing in a sub-Rs. 10 lakh segment, the price sensitivity factor is quite high.
On the flip side, Maruti Suzuki is leveraging the huge popularity of the Swift moniker in the Indian market and additionally, it is also betting big on the tall fuel efficiency claim of 25.75 kmpl.
