Maruti To Launch Electric MPV In India: Ertiga EV in Works

Internally codenamed YMC, the electric MPV will share its underpinnings with the upcoming eVX electric SUV which will go on sale in the second half of 2024.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) will soon step into the electric vehicle segment with the launch of the eVX electric SUV in the second half of 2024. While this is just a start, more EVs are lined up for launch in the Indian market and the Ertiga EV is one of them. The all-electric MPV is expected to debut around September 2026 and it will share the underpinnings with the upcoming eVX.

Maruti Suzuki Elecrtic MPV Ertiga EV: Details

The electric MPV from the Japanese carmaker will be based on a flexible born electric skateboard architecture co-developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. This platform is capable of accommodating multiple body styles and MPV is one of them. Taking full advantage of the 27PL electric platform, the Ertiaga EV could become the first electric MPV in the domestic market. Moreover, the underpinnings will be shared with the eVX along with the powertrain. Much like the eVX, the Ertiga MPV is also expected to get a Toyota counterpart and both vehicles will be manufactured at the company’s Hansalpur, Gujarat-based facility.

Internally codenamed YMC, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV is expected to launch in the second half of 2026. Under the hood, you can expect a 60kWh battery pack with a claimed range of around 400 kilometres on a single charge. It will only get a singe motor FWD setup.

Maruti Suzuki Elecrtic MPV Ertiga EV: Usecase?

The Ertiga EV could be a good option for commercial fleet owners and taxi drivers. We can expect Maruti Suzuki to launch its commercial version as well. A real-world range of around 350 kilometres will work wonders for the taxi driver use case. We expect it to become hugely popular amongst fleet owners.
