The mild-hybrid Swift is sold in some international markets; Gets the familiar 1.2-litre Z12E engine with mild-hybrid system.
Maruti Suzuki launched the new Swift in the Indian market last year. The biggest upgrade was the 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine along with design updates inside out. Earlier, it was speculated that the homegrown carmaker could offer the Swift in the mild-hybrid guise, however, that was not the case. In the latest development, the Swift has been spotted testing around Gurugram and it seems to be the mild-hybrid model with ADAS.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Mild-Hybrid Spied: What’s Different in the Design Department?
The Swift in the spy shots can be seen sporting a new set of alloy wheels. These are 16-inch units with 185-section tyres, and the company offers the same alloys in the international-spec model. For reference, the Swift sold in India gets 15-inch alloy wheels in the top-spec trim. In addition to this, we can spot the new Black colour. Moreover, the rear bumper is slightly tweaked with a different finish in the lower part.
Keen eyes can also not the thicker running board and it seems to be quite similar to the international-spec model. The sporty roof spoiler is also a part of the package. The mild-hybrid Swift sold overseas sports the Hybrid badging on the boot lid, however, it is missing on this specific test mule. The ADAS Radar is integrated into the front grille.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Mild-Hybrid Spied: Powertrain
The Swift mild-hybrid sold in the international markets employs the 1.2 litre Z12E 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. It produces 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to the option of a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox. In India, the CVT version is highly unlikely and Maruti could do away with the AGS unit. The international-spec Swift mild-hybrid also gets an AWD variant but it won’t come to India.
With the mild-hybrid version, the claimed 0-100 kmph timings stand at 12.5 seconds. The major advance that the mild-hybrid tech brings to the table is the enhanced fuel efficiency and it could go up to 30 kmpl. The current Swift returns a claimed figure of around 25 kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Mild-Hybrid Spied: ADAS
The test mule of the mild-hybrid Swift can be seen featuring the ADAS sensor on the front grille. This means that Maruti Suzuki will likely introduce ADAS with its upcoming cars in India. It will likely be a Level 2 ADAS system with features like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, lane departure prevention, lane keeping assist, rear cross traffic alert and traffic sign recognition amongst others.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Mild-Hybrid Spied: India Launch?
There can be multiple reasons for the Swift being tested in India. Maruti Suzuki could be testing out and calibrating the ADAS system for the Indian road conditions. With the speculations that a series-hybrid powertrain is under development, the testing of a mild-hybrid Swift comes as a surprise.
There are internal reports that the series hybrid system could be a bit difficult to accommodate in the small cars and that could be the reason that the company may consider the mild-hybrid system for Swift, rather than the series hybrid which will also come at a higher cost.
If the latter holds true, we could see the Maruti Suzuki Swift mild-hybrid launching in India by the end of this year.
