Mahindra & Mahindra has been quite proactive in introducing new variants of the XUV700 with the most recent addition being the AX5 Select variants. Earlier, the base MX trim which was only available with a 5-seater configuration got a 7-seater option. In the latest development, it has come to light that the Mahindra XUV700 Base MX Trim will soon get the choice of an automatic gearbox.

Before moving ahead, it is important to note that only the petrol powertrain option will get the automatic gearbox option in the base MX trim. As of now, the automatic gearbox option in the Mahindra XUV700 starts from Rs. 18.19 lakh (ex-showroom) for the AX3 Petrol AT 5-seater variant. On the other hand, its rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and more offer an automatic gearbox at a much lower price point. While these aforementioned SUVs are not immediately stacked up against the XUV700 but are often considered by customers due to overlapping prices. So, customers on a tight budget looking for an AT gearbox will have no choice left but to consider cars like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which are a good option. In addition to this, a minor slowdown in the sales and overall popularity of XUV700 is another reason for this move.

The base XUV700 MX AT will only be offered with the 2.0 L mStallion turbo petrol engine putting out 200 horses. Paired with the AT gearbox, this will be a quite value for money option. Mahindra commands a premium of around Rs. 1.6 lakh for petrol AT transmission over the manual petrol counterpart. Considering a similar premium for the MX petrol variant, the new MX AT petrol will likely be priced in the range of Rs. 15.5 lakh to Rs. 16 lakh (ex-showroom), factoring in the higher premium for petrol AT in the lower AX3 variant as well as the option of 5 and 7 seater configuration.
As for the launch timeline is concerned, the Mahindra XUV700 MX Automatic gearbox variant will debut by the end of this month.
