Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the Thar 5-Door in the Indian market. Ahead of its official unveiling on August 15, the Indian SUV maker revealed its upcoming SUV’s name. The Thar 5-Door will be dubbed the Thar ‘Roxx’, which differs from the anticipated Thar ‘Armada’. The Thar Roxx does sound modern, however, scores low in terms of its connection with the “Thar’ moniker which stands for a legacy of off-road prowess, ruggedness and a history of evolution. In this regard, OPAV Autos believes that the Thar ‘Armada’ would have been a better choice.

The first teaser of the Thar Roxx reveals nearly the entire exterior design which is constituted by several new elements. This includes the new grille, LED headlamp with a C-shaped element, new front bumper, a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels and the extended side profile with proper 5 doors. In addition to this, the rear gets a new set of C-shaped LED tail lamps. The interiors are yet to be revealed by Mahindra
As per the teaser, the Thar Roxx will feature all-LED lighting and we could also spot a front camera in the teaser. This reveals the presence of a 180-degree front and rear parking camera just like the Scorpio N. In addition to this, the teaser highlighted the front parking sensors on the Mahindra Thar 5-Door.
The Thar 5-Door will get a slew of engine options including the 1.5 litre diesel powering the RWD version, a 2.2 litre mHawk diesel and a 2.0 litre Stallion petrol. These engines will be paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. 4WD will also be offered as an option.

Seeing the long list of features that the Thar Roxx will offer, it could be positioned above the Scorpio N. In this case, the price of expected to start from Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom), going all the way up to Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom). Unofficial bookings are already on at dealer level and we can expect the official booking to commence by the end of August. Deliveries will likely start around the festive season.
