Mahindra & Mahindra will end the dry spell of 2 years with the Thar Armada in the Indian market. Set for an official unveiling on August 15, the Thar 5-Door will be the next big launch from the Indian SUV manufacturer after the Scorpio N which debuted in 2022. We have spotted the test mule of the Thar 5-Door multiple times on the Indian roads and most of its details are already known.
We are yet to know about the exact powertrain specification of the Thar 5-Door. While the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.0-litre Stallion petrol engines are confirmed, the exact power and torque output are yet to be known. We expect it to carry better figures than the current Thar 3-Door. As per the reports, we will only get 4WD variants at the time of launch, however, the RWD version could be launched at a later stage.
The Thar Armada will be positioned between the current Thar and Scorpio N. SInce the Thar is also available in RWD variants, the Thar 5-Door’s pricing will go above the Thar 3-Door’s starting price of Rs. 11.25 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Scorpio N’s range starts from Rs. 13.60 lakh (ex-showroom). So, a starting price of around 13 lakh is what we can expect from Mahindra.
On the other hand, if Mahindra decides to position it as a premium product (very little probability), the starting price could be over Rs. 14 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol manual 4WD variant.
The current Thar 3-Door is selling over 5,500 units monthly and seeing the limited production capacity of Mahindra, we expect around 5,000 units per month from the upcoming Thar 5-Door.
