Maruti Suzuki Jimny is sold in India in its 5-door guise, and we don’t have the 3-door model, which is sold internationally. In the latest development, it has come to light that the Jimny 5-Door is set to go on sale in Japan this month and will be exported from India.

It is important to note that India is the only country where the Jimny 5-Door is being manufactured. We were also the first market to get the Jimny 5-Door. Currently, the SUV is exported to multiple LHD and RHD markets globally.
In the Japanese market, the 5-door version of the SUV will be dubbed the ‘Jimny Nomade’. As per the reports, there will be very minimal changes to the India-spec model for the Japanese market, mostly to comply with the local norms. Even the colour options and features on offer will be familiar. The Jimny Nomade will be powered by the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine in the same state of tune, paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. Suzuki All-Grip 4WD system will be standard across all variants.
The first shipment of the India-made Jimny 5-Door has already reached Japan and the company will start the distribution to the dealerships in the coming days. Currently, only the Jimny 3-Door is on offer in the Japanese market. There are two versions of the Jimny 3-Door in Japan i.e. Standard and Sierra. The Jimny standard gets a 660cc petrol engine while the Jimny Sierra is powered by the familiar 1.5 litre K15B petrol unit.

Jimny 5-Door is the second model made in India to go on sale in Japan. First being the Fronx, the compact crossover got a slew of updates for the Japanese markets such as a different powertrain, ADAS and AWD setup amongst others. Further down the line, the recently unveiled Maruti Suzuki e Vitara which will be manufactured in India for domestic as well as export markets, will be launched in Japan by the end of 2025.
