Force Gurkha 5-Door Teased: Will it Make Sense?

Not a prominent name in the market, the Force Gurkha is a slow seller; Will the Gurkha 5-Door change the fate?

The lifestyle vehicle category is one of the fastest growing, however, the sales figures are still meagre. Currently, the affordable or most accessible vehicles in this category include the Mahindra Thar, Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The Jimny is the only 5-door model in this segment, and the Thar as well as Gurkha are yet to receive their 5-door versions. The launch of the Thar 5-Door Armada is just around the corner. In the latest development, Force Motors has released the first teaser of the Gurkha 5-Door.

Force Gurkha 5-Door Teased: The New Highlights

As we all know the new Gurkha will sport a proper 5-door setup and the overall length as well as wheelbase will go up. In addition to this, a decent amount of boot space will also be a part of the package. Under the hood, it is expected to carry the familiar 2.6-litre turbo diesel engine putting out a very low 91 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The power figures are very low considering the size, class and use case of the Force Gurkha.

Apart from this, the 4WD system will be its USP which will now come with a shift-on-fly system. Proper locking differentials and a 5-speed manual gearbox will be a part of the package.

Force Gurkha 5-Door Teased: Why it won’t sell?

The current 3-door Gurkha has failed to make a mark and it didn’t stand a chance in front of Thar’s sheer popularity. The same case will apply to the upcoming Gurkha 5-Door. While the sales figures are not available at the moment, we are pretty sure that the Gurkha is not selling more than double digits. The launch timeline is around mid-2024 and it will command a premium of around Rs. 1.5 lakh over the 3-Door model.

Force Gurkha 5-Door Teased: The need for improvement

  • More features in line with the rivals
  • Powerful engine
  • The option of an automatic transmission as well as a petrol powertrain is a must.
  • Should be priced below the Thar 5-Door.
  • Need for better highway cruising ability.
  • Improvement in after-sales service.
