The test mule of the Brezza has been spotted with a 6-speed manual gearbox, possibly hinting at a new engine option.
It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki is working on a comprehensive update for the Brezza, as the competition in the segment has grown manyfold in the last few years. While the compact SUV continues to sell in good numbers, it appears quite dated in terms of overall appeal and equipment. The testing of the Brezza facelift is underway, and the latest spy shots give away the presence of a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift 6-speed Manual Gearbox: Just a New Gearbox or New Engine?
Possibility No. 1: Maruti Suzuki could pair the existing 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with a new 6-speed gearbox, replacing the 5-speed units. An extra gear will improve the cruising ability of the SUV, along with improving the overall fuel efficiency. However, the chances of this are very low as the company will then have to carry forward the new gearbox to the Victoris and Grand Vitara, which can be a lot of work.
Possibility No. 2: A brand-new engine is under development, which will debut with the Brezza facelift. It could either be a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit or a 1.2-litre NA engine paired to the HEV hybrid system. The new motor will likely get a 6-speed gearbox, along with the option of a 6-speed torque converter unit. This new 1.2-litre setup will enable Brezza to benefit from a lower tax slab, resulting in aggressive pricing.
We think the existing 1.5-litre K15 engine could continue as is, and the higher trims could offer either a hybrid or a turbo petrol motor paired with a 6-speed gearbox. This also comes down to the fact that the CNG-powered Brezza will continue with the 1.5-litre K15C engine.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift: Other Probable Changes
Apart from the new powertrain, the Brezza facelift will sport minor cosmetic tweaks, including a new grille, bumpers and updated design for alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, we will see new features, including a larger infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat and more. Basically, Maruti Suzuki will try to give a premium touch to the SUV’s interiors, something which rivals have been doing for a long time.
