Skoda VW’s IMP (India Main Platform) to underpin upcoming EVs; Localised MQB A037 to be used by the next-gen Taigun and Kushaq.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Limited has started the development process of its in-house new platforms for the Indian market. Next-Gen Kushaq Taigun To Be Based on MQB A037 Platform

The current Kushaq, Slavia, Taigun and Virtus are based on the MQB A027 platform which comes with certain limitations of size and limited support for electrical architecture. The next-gen Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun will be underpinned by the global-spec MQB A037 platform. According to reports, the carmaker is already in talks with local suppliers to localise this platform, in the interest of cost efficiency.

This platform will enable the new-gen Kushaq and Taigun to be longer and wider, giving the opportunity for better design and road presence. This will also help to spawn the 7-seater version of the SUVs. In addition to this, the MQB A037 platform is compatible with a hybrid powertrain, thus making it future-proof for the Indian market.

Indian Main Platform For Upcoming Skoda Volkswagen EVs

The group has also started the development of IMP (Indian Main Platform), a dedicated EV architecture for the Indian market. It will be based on the CMP (China Main Platform). It will be heavily localised in the country in order to bring it to par with the domestic cost structure and achieve financial viability.

4 upcoming electric SUVs will be based on this platform. 2 sub-4-meter compact EV SUVs and 2 mid-size EV SUVs are on the cards.
