2025 Volkswagen Golf R Debut This Month: Teased, More Power?

The updated 2025 Volkswagen Golf R is set for a global debut on June 26; The teaser highlights the new design of the hot hatch.

As we are nearing the debut date of the 2025 updated Volkswagen Golf R which is scheduled for June 26, the German carmaker has shared a teaser of the hot hatch, giving a small sneak peak into its design. For the record, the Volkswagen Golf GTI was unveiled earlier this year and it got a sharper design, new tech features inside the cabin and more power under the hood. Volkswagen also revealed a test prototype of the Golf R in January and the fully camouflaged car gave us a hint of the design.

2025 Volkswagen Golf R: The Debut Date & Teaser

The latest teaser reveals the release date of the updated Volkswagen Golf R along with giving a glimpse of the hatchback’s front-end design. Though not much is visible in the teaser image, we can spot the illuminated headlamps and a connected LED DRL, accompanied by a glowing VW logo. The front fascia looks quite similar to the already unveiled latest Golf GTI and matches the test prototypes teased earlier. Updated tail lights at the rear and larger air dams will also be a part of the new design package.

In addition to this, the 2025 Golf R will also get an extended sporty rear spoiler which helps to assert its sporty stance.

2025 Volkswagen Golf R: What’s New Inside the Cabin?

Much like the Golf GTI, Volkswagen will equip the Golf R with features like a new infotainment system and physical controls on steering wheels, replacing the haptic controls in the outgoing model.

2025 Volkswagen Golf R: Powertrain

The familiar 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will power the Golf R, however, a bump of 14 bhp is expected in the power output, taking it to 329 bhp. It will be mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox and we won’t get any manual. A hot hatch like the Golf R deserves a stick shift.
